Metadata Data Definition Files. Metadata data definition files are available for use with selected, widely used, Federal statistical data files. The metadata is provided in the form of a dBMerge data definition file that enables you to import the corresponding downloaded geostatistical server file into database structure.

These files are not required but may make use of some files easier. You can create your own data definition files. However, they might help you maintain standardized codes in your data files (e.g., using a field systematically named "STFIPS" for the state FIPS code. Metadata files are added irregularly, please check this page for updates.

  •   U.S. Census Bureau 2006 County Population Estimates
  •   U.S. Geological Survey Geographic Names Information System
(comma-delimited point file to point shapefile)
  •   U.S. Department of Education 2005-06 School District

Using Data Definition Files. The data definition files provide more than a record layout. Different server sourced files are structured differently even if, for example, structured for dissemination in Excel. A processing control file is provided with the metadata files (above) that dBMerge interprest so that the data can be properly converted into database structure.

Adding Fields. Use the dBMerge AddCode feature to add a field to the database structure.
