MetroDynamics (MD) is updated with the detailed (subject matter data by maximum detailed NAICS category) 2007Q4 quarterly establishments, employment, and earnings (EEE) data based on employer reported data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics ES-202 program.   See description of subject matter included in MD.  MD provides quarterly time series EEE data from 2004Q1 forward, then making a 16 quarter series.  Use the optional MD feature to estimate suppressed data and use continuous quarterly measurements in your analyses.

EEE-HI Database.  Use the new U.S. by county "high level industry" EEE data (EEE-HL) for visual and tabular analysis.  Updated quarterly, these data may be used with the HLIAnalyst (see below) to examine composition, patterns, and trends.

HLIAnalyst integrated software and database enables uses to analyze county level quarterly economic high level industry trend data.  The quarterly updated database enables users to examine employer reported "ES-202" data on establishments, employment and earnings with only a 7-8 month lag from the reporting period.  Easy access to county (or custom aggregate) area economic trend data.  Supported with on-demand graphic analysis/charts and analytical operations such as location quotient analysis.

Starting with the first quarter of 2008, Proximity updates national scope census tract level demographic estimates by quarter. These data are integrated for use with both MetroDynamics and CommunityViewer.

Small area demographics have changed significantly for many areas across the U.S. since Census 2000.  The census tract demographic quarterly trends database helps stakeholders assess how areas of interest are changing. The dataset includes Census 2000 demographics and 2008 demographic estimates.  The following view illustrates the power of using these data to determine where and how the population is changing.

New Census Bureau July 1, 2007 official place-level population estimates, released by the Census Bureau on July 10, reflect place boundaries as of January 1, 2007 (see June DMINews). The estimates include approximately 19,500 incorporated places, areas of population concentration with state designated governmental authority, as well as other types of sub-county areas.  Houston, Texas led the U.S. in numerical one-year growth between 2006 and 2007.

These data have been integrated into MetroDynamics (MD) enabling place analysis in context of place-to-place, places with metros, etc.  The following view shows the 2007 population estimates for Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown, Texas MSA and component places (partial view).  The first row shows the data for Houston MSA followed by rows showing the data for places 5,000 population and over.  The grid normally shows single year of age data 2000 to 2007.  The hide column feature was used to focus only on change between 2000 and 2007 and values for 2006 and 2007.  The percent of area measure shows the relative contribution of the place to the metro.

The next graphic shows the same scope of data with a slightly different view.  The MD hide rows feature is used to remove the MSA summary row and the column header for the 2000-2007 population change was clicked to sort the places.  This view shows the contribution to MSA change for the period by place ranked in descending order.

As we get further from Census 2000, it becomes more difficult to produce good population estimates in a national estimates program.  This is particularly true for areas that have been experiencing change and for smaller places.  While we believe these place/sub-county population estimates to be the best available, the question arises - how accurate are they?  Unlike a census or statistical survey, there is no good way to estimate the error associated with these estimates.  A subsequent report will compare these estimates with others produced independently.  Watch for DMINews.
