  • U.S. by 2003 NECTA Shapefile: a map file that contains all U.S. 2003 New England City and Town Area (NECTA) polygons and can be used to generate NECTA maps.
More Detailed Example. The following map shows the 2003 NECTA boundary file for the Boston area. The yellow highlight area is the Boston-Cambridge-Quincy, MA-NH Metropolitan NECTA. The bolded polygons within the yellow colored area are Metropolitan NECTA Divisions. The Lowell-Billerica-Chelmsford, MA-NH NECTA Division is shown by name.

The lighter colored polygons are another layer. These towns and MCDs are combined to make up NECTAs. These boundaries are shown here only for illustration.

Elemental polygons in the boundary file are carried at the smallest level of Division, Metropolitan NECTA, or Micropolitan NETCA. The NECTA name (NECTANAME) and code (NECTA) for the Micropolitan or Metropolitan NECTA and the Metropolitan NECTA Division name (NECTANAMED) and code (NECTAD) are included for every polygon. If these is no Metropolitan NECTA Division, the NECTAD code and NECTANAMED are blank.
