The Proximity School District Information System (SDIS) provides Web-based interactive access to integrated, multi-sourced school and school system data resources. While SDIS provides something along the lines of a "one-stop" portal for accessing key, national scope school and school district data, it is more.

Use SDIS to view tables/reports, extract data, or view maps of schools, school districts and other areas that meet your criteria and analytical interests. Select from sources including decennial census, Proximity estimates and projections, administratively reported (by state and local education agencies) enrollment and facility data, and school system finances -- sources and uses of funds.

Access SDIS information three ways:

  •   SDISQuery -- Web-based access using SQL queries
  •   SDISReport -- Web-based access to pre-designed comparative analysis reports & tables
  •   SDISServer -- transportable SDISQuery and/or SDISReport for operation on your server
(ideal where supplementary additional data are required)

SDISQuery. Using Structured Query Language (SQL) with SDISQuery, you are able to flexibly query the various database tables and access the mixed source data. See how SDISQuery operates by using the no fee, reduced scope Children's Demographics Database Query System (CDSQL). CDSQL includes the Census 2000 school district special tabulation "type of enrollment" data for all school districts in the U.S. CDSQL has fewer query and display features than SDIS. Also, CDSQL includes only this one table whereas SDIS enables you to access many other types of tables and subject matter -- and go to the individual school level. CDSQL is more than a demo. CDSQL provides a way to view school district population summaries including total children, [grade] relevant children, relevant children enrolled, relevant children enrolled in public school, relevant children enrolled in private school, and relevant children not enrolled.

SDISQuery operates using a combination of PHP and MYSQL software. SDIS has been designed so that it is transportable to other servers. This feature enables organizations to easily integrate their own databases with the national scope standardized data already included in SDIS.

SDIS Online Subscriptions and Server Licensing

Online Subscription. SDIS is available on a subscription basis where users access the data online via Internet. To use this service, all that is required is access to Internet.

SDIS Server License. SDIS is available as a transportable software and database system that can be installed on the client's computer (server). Quarterly or more frequent database updates are optionally available. The SDIS Server License option enables organizations to add their own unique data to the core database. The SDIS Server License is an excellent solution for Federal, state and local education agencies, colleges and universities, research organizations, and organizations that need to maintain other, related school or school system data.

Using the SDIS Server, add your own confidential data such as geocoded student level data. Proximity can address match and geocode your files and provide them so they easily integrate with other SDIS databases. Perform analysis relating students to schools, districts, or colleges.
